Available Schemes under PMSS

The PMSS is actually divided into three specific sub-schemes depending on which force your parent served in:

  1. PMSS for CAPFs & Assam Rifles: For wards/widows of CAPF and AR personnel.
  2. PMSS for State/UT Police: For wards of police personnel martyred in terror/naxal attacks.
  3. PMSS for RPF/RPSF: For wards/widows of Railway Protection Force personnel.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

1. For Wards of CAPFs and Assam Rifles

  • Wards of deceased personnel (killed in action/service).
  • Wards of disabled personnel (disability due to service).
  • Wards of Ex-CAPFs/AR personnel who received Gallantry Awards.
  • Wards of Retired or Serving personnel (below officer rank - PBOR).
  • Academic Requirement: Minimum 60% marks in Class 12, Diploma, or Graduation.

2. For Wards of State/UT Police Personnel

  • Applicable only to wards of police personnel who were martyred during terror or naxal attacks.
  • Course Requirement: Must be pursuing a professional degree (Engineering, Medical, MBA, MCA, etc.).
  • Academic Requirement: Minimum 60% marks in the qualifying exam.

3. For Wards of RPF/RPSF Personnel

  • Wards/widows of ex-RPF/RPSF personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty (encounters, protection of railway property, etc.).
  • Academic Requirement: Minimum 60% marks in Class 12, Diploma, or Graduation.
  • Limit: Maximum of two wards per family can apply.

Scholarship Rewards (Boys vs. Girls)

  • College Proof: Bonafide Certificate from your current institution and Admission Letter.
  • Personal ID: Aadhaar Card and Passport-size photograph.
  • Bank Details: A copy of your bank passbook (account must be linked to Aadhaar).

Step-by-Step Application Process

Since 2024, the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is the single window for applications. Offline forms are not accepted.

  1. Register (OTR): Visit the National Scholarship Portal and complete the One Time Registration (OTR). You will need your Aadhaar card and mobile number for this.
  2. Login: Use your OTR number to log in to the student dashboard.
  3. Select Scheme: Click on ‘Apply for Scholarship’ and select the ‘Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme’ relevant to you.
  4. Fill Details: Enter your personal, academic, and bank details carefully.
  5. Upload: Upload the required documents in the prescribed format.
  6. Submit: Review the form and click ‘Submit’. Keep a printout for your records.

Selection Process

Applying does not guarantee a scholarship. The selection goes through multiple checks:

  • Stage 1: Your Institute verifies your application.
  • Stage 2: The Nodal Officer of the specific Force (CRPF, BSF, RPF, etc.) verifies your service documents.
  • Stage 3: The Welfare and Rehabilitation Board (WARB) prepares the final merit list.
  • Stage 4: Funds are sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs and transferred directly to your bank account via PFMS.

Important Note

If you are selected, you must maintain at least 50% marks in every semester/year to renew the scholarship for the next year. You must also pass all subjects in a single attempt.
